“In the sea of life, pain is a tide that will ebb and weave, continually. We need to learn how to let it wash over us, without drowning in it. Our life doesn’t have to end where the pain begins, but rather, it is where we start to mend.”

About Ruthie Schnitt
Nice to meet you! My name is Ruthie Schnitt (she/her) and I am a Certified Social Worker. After using psychological techniques to eliminate my own chronic pain, I became fascinated with pain-directed psychotherapy. I left my career as a backcountry guide in the Grand Canyon to pursue a Masters in Social Work at the University of Utah. During my studies, I held a research assistantship position at the Center on Mindfulness and Integrative Health Intervention Development, where I researched the effects of mindfulness techniques on chronic pain. My clinical training included internships at Planned Parenthood Association of Utah and the University of Utah’s Women’s Resource Center. I employ Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and Mindfulness Oriented Recovery Enhancement (MORE) to help you manage your symptoms and reconnect with your body through a lens of safety. Aside from chronic pain, I also enjoy working with anxiety, body image, relationship dynamics, and women’s health.
My work is grounded in Feminist Multicultural Therapy, meaning I recognize how social identities (such as gender, race, class, sexuality, and ability) and trauma shape your experiences of pain and healing. Whether navigating societal expectations, medical systems, or personal relationships, your identity matters. Your unique story will guide our therapy as we explore how your environment and internal narratives influence your experience. In our work, I aim to create a space where all parts of you are welcome, with deep respect for your lived experience.
In my spare time, I enjoy rock climbing, whitewater paddling, and managing my three large vegetable and flower gardens. When I’m not outdoors, I love cooking, reading, creating art, and spending quality time with friends.
