About Troy Olsen
I have taken a roundabout path to becoming a counselor. I have explored and worked in various fields, including animal husbandry, biology, cosmetology, and teaching. After feeling unfulfilled in these areas, I decided to shift my focus to mental health counseling due to my ongoing interest in LGBTQIA+ and mental health issues and studies. I am currently attending Westminster University in Salt Lake City, where I have continued to concentrate my academic work on LGBTQIA+ mental health.
I work with individuals facing a range of challenges, including faith and life transitions, identity development, relationship and family conflicts, attachment injuries, trauma, and more. I especially value my work with individuals who have intersectional identities, such as those related to queerness, neurodivergence, disability, spirituality, and other diverse aspects. I utilize elements of narrative, existential, and attachment-based therapies, along with contemporary research on neurodevelopment and the effects of trauma on the body and brain.
When I’m not counseling, you can find me engrossed in sociology and therapy-related books, enjoying X-Men comics, playing video games, or listening to black metal music. I also have a deep love for plants and animals, and I’m often out on adventures with my partner and our two big dogs.
