Clinical Intern
“They say: sufferings are misfortunes,” said Pierre. ‘But if at once this minute, I was asked, would I remain what I was before I was taken prisoner, or go through it all again, I should say, for God’s sake let me rather be a prisoner…We imagine that as soon as we are torn out of our habitual path all is over, but it is only the beginning of something new and good. As long as there is life, there is happiness. There is a great deal, a great deal before us.”

My Approach
No one is free of suffering in this life but you can make meaning out of your most excruciating moments. By using Psychodynamic and Existential Therapies (for individuals) and Emotionally Focused and Gottman Method (for couples), I will help you find purpose, healing, and awe in your life again. I enjoy working with many clients, including teens and adults struggling in their relationships or with life changes; couples that feel stuck or are grappling with betrayal, in-laws, or parent stressors; older adults seeking to find meaning in their twilight years; and individuals in the middle of a faith crisis.
The hardships and trauma that you have been through don’t need to remain purposeless and painful. I am excited to learn about you and help you find stability and hope in your day-to-day life. You will bring the expertise of your life, and I will bring clinical experience, evidence-based practices, and empathy for your circumstances.
I look forward to working with you to feel more at peace with yourself, helping you increase your choices, and holding your pain as we work through your challenges together.
About Abbi Buckmiller
My path to becoming a counselor was not without its difficulties. After getting a degree in writing and starting my career in marketing, I quickly became apathetic and lost. Through lots of searching, depression, and additional life struggles, I found my purpose in therapy and wanted to help others do the same.
Now, with a foundation of therapeutic skills and the healing that was offered me in a safe setting, I find meaning and joy in my life, even with continued anxieties and stressors. I hope I can offer the same to my clients.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, cooking, and board games. In our busy digital age, anything that helps me be present and fully enjoy the moment is what I strive for. This is found most readily with my support system and close relationships. Their company is enough, but I’ll try to convince them to join me in a board game or dinner party if I can.
